Big Red Thon

by Richard Gu

I had a great time at Big Red Thon last Saturday! The Saturday night vibes were great as I felt like I was being productive and working toward a good cause on a night off. There were fewer people there than I expected, but it was still a fun time and a good experience for the three and a half hours I was there. The reason I actually signed up for this was because I’m a bit short on service hours with Docubro closing next week, so I thought that this would be a good opportunity to get some more hours in. Even with that
goal in mind, the event turned out to be a lot of fun. I made sure to sign up together with a couple friends (Will and Sunrise, pictured below) so it would be more interesting. The event coordinators did an excellent job of getting the area set up for a dance marathon and ensuring we had fun at the same time as we were raising money for the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. My favorite parts of the night were learning the dance to “Old Town Road” and racing through the bouncy house with friends. The only part of the event that I didn’t like was that there weren’t many people there, which was a bit disappointing. I was looking forward to going to a busy event as I feel like the energy of all of Barton Hall filled with
volunteers would’ve been great to experience, but that was okay after a while as I adjusted and started having fun. I’m very thankful that the event chair, Freda (also my PPGL), encouraged me to attend and stay until cleanup. It was a night well spent, and I’m looking forward to attending Big Red Thon again next time!
